It’s been a year.

So, it’s been a year and it feels like I was just picking up that SUV and hitting the road to check off yet another goal on my list. Sometimes, I still can’t believe I’m here. Even with the crowded trains, Mickey and Minnie on the train tracks, small apartments, guys yelling “Yo Ma” at every block, hitting up random premieres with and without appearances of the stars that will grace your screen, rushing to the laundromat (or sending your clothes out – because really, who has in unit washer and dryer here?). Plus more.

I’ve met people in the most random places I could think of – Lyft pool, random BBQs, airports. Some of them here for a season, some of them here for…well, you know the rest.

We all know my dating life. Some I’ve decided to share for comedic relief and some I’ve kept private because…you can’t let everything out the bag, right?
Some days I don’t like NYC. Some days I love it. Overall, I would’ve regretted it for the rest of my life if I didn’t move here. This past year has been a whirlwind of getting to know myself better through others. Sounds weird, but it’s true. I’ve been through more unique situations here than I have anywhere. It’s been one year, but feels like five. It seems like just the other day I was bumping J Cole’s “New York Times” on the Chicago Green Line going to work. At that time, I was preparing to stay in the city for six more months.

I’m honestly surprised I’m still here. The saying is SO true, no cliche’, “If you can make it here, you can make it anywhere.” You can never truly understand that saying unless you’ve lived here. I thought that was BS until I finished my first year here. I will never take this experience for granted. I will say one thing though, I’m not really sure I could see myself settling here. For now, I’ll just enjoy the ride.

Him: Have you ever thought like, what if you moved somewhere and fell in love with someone in a city you didn’t want to settle in?

Me: Uh…for a split second I have but I’ve lived in 3 cities other than my hometown and it hasn’t happened. So I figure I’ll just cross that bridge when I get to it.
